overview ]
As noted from the title, this is an x86 (initially targeting a 486, moving along to later x86 generations later) emulator for the Next Generation Sony PlayStation (PSX2). The PSX2 is an incredible piece of hardware. Trying to emulate a PSX2 on a PC would be fruitless, as PCs pale in comparison of processing power over the PSX2. So in my line of thinking, it's time to go the other way. Browse the 'net on your PSX2? How about a "rendering farm" of PSX2s all running 3DSMax? Okay, how about Half-Life on your PSX2? See what I'm getting at?
So what about input devices? The PSX2 has USB ports -- pop in a keyboard and mouse, no problem. Need storage? Plop in a PCMCIA hard card. Attach a modem or network PCMCIA card too, and you have 'net access. The possibilities are endless.
The emulator itself has already begun, being built upon a dynamic recompilation core. This project will be "open source", where *you* can contribute to the project by submitting patches. There will be a mailing list going soon... we're still trying to get all this working, so be patient.
